CLAIRE MACDONALD HONOURED WITH
LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

Claire Macdonald, world-renowned cook and author, is to be honoured with the 2005 Lifetime Achievement Award by the Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland (RHASS). The prestigious annual award recognises a person, company or product that has outlived food fads and industry changes whilst remaining an ambassador for the Scottish food industry.

The award to Claire acknowledges that, by sharing her passion for food with a wide audience at home and abroad, she has come to be recognised as someone who promotes and practises quality production of Scottish food, making her a respected leader in the industry.

Claire Macdonald was delighted at the news of the award saying:
“I am extremely honoured to have been chosen to receive such an important award. As a cook for many more years than I care to remember, my philosophy is simple – buy good quality local produce in the season it should be eaten and taste the difference. I am very fortunate to live in a country where our natural larder is overflowing with quality meat, fish, game, fruit, vegetables, dairy products, beer, whisky and much more.
“In a constantly changing world, where cooks and food fads come and go, I am delighted to be recognised for doing something I love. Over a period of 30 years, I have been happy to share my passion for food and to be given this award as a result is a very welcome surprise.”
RHASS was founded in 1784 to promote the regeneration of rural Scotland, as well as the preservation of its poetry, language and music. Today, the Society is for people who value the rural areas of Scotland and is responsible for the annual Royal Highland Show in Scotland.
